THE - Used before both singular and plural nouns, and before both countable and uncountable nouns.

Example  :  The presenter, The audience, The sessions

• before a nouns, which there is only one
• before rivers, seas, oceans, mountains, group of island
• before an ordinal number
• in certain expressions of time
• to refer to particular nouns mentioned in a sentence
